A Fulani cattle herdsman
has set the town of Nitsemwamwa community in Kwali Area Council in the
Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on fire after it emerged that he
murdered a local farmer who caught him while raping a girl in the bush where he was razing his herd.
As reported by Daily Trust, the incident happened when the farmer identified as Danladi Jeji, reportedly caught the herder, identified as Idris,
allegedly raping a local Gbagyi girl with Idris allegedly begging the
farmer not to report he saw to the girl's kinsmen but the farmer would
not take such as he made sure he informed the elders in the village.
The
herdsman knowing that his secret has been revealed, laid ambush for the
farmer and after about three weeks, he trailed the man to his farmland
where he attacked and killed him with his cutlass before escaping.
A villager narrated how the whole incident led to Jeji's murder:
“It
was after three weeks when the farmer reported the issue to the
community and it was settled between Fulani and Gbagyi elders that Idris
came back to attack the farmer.
On that
Friday morning, the herder who went with his cows in the bush to graze,
saw the farmer working on his farm and attacked him with cutlass,” he said.
The
murder is said to be creating serious tension in the land and the
Fulani herders and the Gbagyi natives are currently at logger heads as
some provoked youths of the community had mobilised and set some of the
herders’ settlements on fire, a situation that forced some of the Fulani
men to flee to neighboring Kwaita village.
