In 2006 she took part in the UK’s music
contest X-Factor and made it to the Top 24. While participating in the
popular music competition franchise, she had difficulty dealing with the
limelight. She told the media: "You have to always realize that people
are watching. When I got the bad news that I wasn't getting through [to
the final 12] it was a really painful time. But you still have to learn
how to hold that until you get home. Because you don't want to just let
everything out. People admire you and want to see that you're strong;
they don't want to see you breaking down".
Tiwa was ambitious, and she didn't want to be a backup singer forever. So she started to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts for her 2nd degree where she got a scholarship and from which she graduated in 2007. Since 2007 she has worked with great producers such as Black Eyed Peas drummer Keith Harris, Oak Warren Felder (Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown), Babyface and many others.
