Nigeria’s
former president Olusegun Obasanjo said on Wednesday, August
26, explained what had prevented him from joining the National Youth
Service Corps (NYSC).
The ex leader of the country spoke at the
meeting in Abeokuta, Ogun state, as he was decorated as grand patron of
the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Alumni Association.
According to Vanguard, Chief Obasanjo confessed he would have loved to
participate in the NYSC but could not.
“Somebody wrote me a letter when he got
to know that I have graduated from NOUN, he wanted me to do national
youth service, but unfortunately for him there is age limit.”

The prominent Nigerian, who hosted guests
at his residence, noted that the establishment of the NOUN posed a
unique chance for people to massively access higher education in the
country.
It should be recalled that Obasanjo was one of those recently subjected to harsh criticism by the incumbent president.Earlier this week Muhammadu Buhari accused the past governments of recklessness in subsidy payments. He expressed great displeasure with the way of managing “oil affairs” in the country since he had left office as the petroleum minister and head of state in 1985.
