Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich the big winners from the Champions League draw

Betting: Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich the big winners from the Champions League draw
The Bundesliga winners were handed a kind draw according to the bookies while Louis van Gaal's side were big movers after being drawn with PSV Einhoven, CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg
For teams such as Manchester United, Valencia and Bayer Leverkusen, the long road to Milan was well underway but at the draw in Monaco, the betting public learnt the fate of every one of the 32 teams remaining in the competition.

Barcelona began the day as the solid 3/1 (4.0) favourites to defend their European crown and they have contracted to 11/4 (3.75) in the market after being drawn with Bayer Leverkusen, Roma and BATE Borisov.

The reigning champions were the first team to be picked out and they will be confident of progressing through a group that appears to be very winable for Luis Enrique's side.

Atletico Madrid were the biggest movers in the market, they were 25/1 (26.0) in places before the draw got underway but they were placed in a group with Benfica, Galatasaray and FC Astana of Kazakhstan, who make their debut in the group stages after triumphing over APOEL in the last round. Diego Simeone's 2014 finalists have been clipped to 16/1 (17.0) to go one better than two seasons ago.

Chelsea are still the shortest priced English team in the competition, they will face Jose Mourinho's former club Porto, Dynamo Kiev and Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Group G as the Blues boss looks to add a third Champions League winners medal to his expansive collection of honours. The Premier League winners are now 9/1 (from 10/1) with Paddy Power.

Bayern Munich (9/2 from 5/1) will face Arsenal, Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb and Pep Guardiola's men have seen their odds cut by the bookmakers to win the tourament that formed part of an historic treble under former manager Jupp Heynckes in his final season in charge at the Allianz Arena. The German champions remain second in the betting behind Barcelona.

Two of the well-fancied teams, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, were drawn together in Group A, which looks the toughest of the eight and also includes 2009 Uefa Cup winners Shakhtar Donetsk and Malmo, who ended Celtic's hopes in the final qualification round.

Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic spoke about his desire to play Champions League football for his hometown club and now he will have the opportunity to face them twice in the colours of PSG.

The Ligue 1 champions drifted to 16/1 (17.0) in the betting while Rafael Benitez's men retain their initial quotes of 11/2 (6.50) to win the competition.

PSV Eindhoven were one of the potentially kinder draws for sides in the second group of teams and Manchester United (16/1 from 20/1) were the side to be placed into Group B with the Eredivise champions, giving Memphis Depay a chance to play against his former club at the earliest opportunity.

CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg will complete that group and it certainly looks a good opportunity for Louis van Gaal's side to progress to the knockout stages upon their return to the competition following a year away.

Juventus, the team that the Catalan club beat 3-1 in last season's final in Berlin, began the day as 16/1 (17.0) chances and saw their odds drift into 20/1 (21.0) after Group D saw the Italian champions handed games against Manchester City, Europa League winners Sevilla and Borrusia Monchengladbach.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have faced some tough draws in the past, often running up against Europe's elite teams at the first opportunity and this collection of teams has seen them drift by a point to 12/1 (13.0).

Perhaps the most open group sees Zenit St Petersburg, Valencia, Lyon and Gent, who make their first appearance at this stage of the competition, face off for two places in the last 16.
