Incidences of lovers stabbing
themselves over minor quarrels have been on the rise in the country and
something has to be done to stem the tide. This is just as another case
has been reported where an unnamed young man in the Oke Afa community in
Magboro area of Ogun State, allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Favour Edet, to death during a fight.
After
committing the atrocious act, the man fled the area and efforts to
trace and arrest him by both the police and the youths of the community
has been abortive.
The gruesome has also caused
panic in the community as the police has continued to raid the area and
arrest some young men at random in a bid to get the runaway lover boy
turned killer since the incident happened on Tuesday, August 25.
It
was learnt that the deceased, a mother of one, lived in a rented
apartment in the area, and had a disagreement with the man in the
morning of the fateful day.
The argument turned
nasty, leading to a fight and in the cause of the altercation, the man
used a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the stomach and fled from the
house immediately.
Neighbours who heard Edet's cry
for help, alerted the police at the Ibafo Police Division and the
police operatives rushed her to a hospital in the where she gave up the
ghost, but not before telling the police what happened between her and
the man.
One of her ex-husband's sisters who
identified herself as Rose, said the man's family had taken the child to
their hometown in Akwa Ibom for proper care.
“I
don’t know the name of the lover, but they had been together for about
three years. She was married to my younger brother initially, and she
gave birth to a boy for him. Later, the two of them separated.
She
used to work in a cosmetics factory in this area before the incident. I
was called on the telephone on Tuesday morning that the man had stabbed
her to death. We have taken her only child to our village in Akwa
Ibom.”
The state Police Public Relations
Officer, (PPRO) DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, adding that
the matter had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal
Investigation, Abeokuta, where the police were intensifying efforts to
arrest the suspect.
“Yes, we have a case of a
boyfriend stabbing his lover to death. He is on the run, but we will
surely get him and bring him to book.
The case has also been transferred to the SDCI, Abeokuta, for further investigation.”
